“Art shall fall and Learning die, Truth shall fade and Freedom fly, Hate shall rise, Wrong and Lies, Love shall leave him, so shall I.” This is from a poem by G.K. Chesterton entitled, “Fire, Famine and Slaughter.” I’m not sure about the original interpretation of it and what G.K. Chesterton meant by the poem, I wasn’t able to find anything conclusive. It reminds me, however, what happens to humanity when we are so overcome with the feeling of “winning the war” and conquering our enemy. This is what war does to us, sadly. I never like to agree…
Officials in Oakland figure they can ignore the 4th Amendment. This is what I keep trying to tell people, it doesn’t matter how limited the government is–on paper–they will get around it. They have since the Alien and Sedition Act…and they still are.
Books play a vital role in my life. They are extremely important to me. I was considering them this morning in light of the free market. Right now, if I want to read a book and not buy it, I will go to our local library. Sadly, the standards of this library have gotten lower and lower until I’m hard pressed to find a decent book. I generally must resort to filling out a request slip for a book at other libraries. And within 6-10 months, I receive the book I wanted! This was frustrating when I was studying WWII….
…to listen covertly to conversations. Not only do they have video surveillance, now it is voice surveillance. Scary.
