NaPoMo: Waiting

A muted and still afternoon, like all the world is waiting for the heavy clouds to break loose and flood us with a violent downpour. Like we’re all just waiting for life to happen to us– waiting to be drenched in the raw pureness of reality– hoping the rain will wash away our nightmares and leave us with a world reborn. – SDL

NaPoMo: Slam Poetry

I’ve recently become really, really interested in slam poetry. I’m still trying to figure out how to write my own for the poetry challenge my friend is doing on Tumblr, but in the meantime, here’s one slam poem I absolutely love.

Top Fav Bands, #5: The Avett Brothers (Post 1)

I decided to do a series of music videos from my top 5 favorite bands. This was pretty challenging as I had to narrow it down to 5, but I felt it was a good exercise for me. So, for the next few weeks, I’ll be posting my favorite songs from my favorite bands. This week it is The Avett Brothers, who made it to 5th place, beating out others such as The Head & The Heart, The Lumineers, Matt Kearney, and Sleeping at Last. Also, I did not take into consideration my favorite instrumental/epic songs, as that’d be just…

NaPoMo: Reflections on Emily Dickinson

This post was originally published in October 2013, but I decided to resurrect it for National Poetry Month. I was looking for a favorite poem to post and this one came to mind…so then I figured I might as well include my short essay, haha.  I am taking this MOOC (massive open online course) on Modern and Contemporary Poetry which is just amazing. I’ve always enjoyed classic poetry but never really got into the newer stuff. Until now, that is. The format of this course is great, I love the group discussions and interaction between all the participants. One of…

Remembering the Eleventh Hour

Four years ago today, Matt Smith’s first episode as the Doctor, The Eleventh Hour, was broadcasted. In honor of that (and as a fun break from my chemistry final), I thought I’d post some of my favorite scenes from his era.                   And I guess it is appropriate to end with this one, from the 2013 Christmas Special, when Matt Smith regenerated.

NaPoMo: Acrostic

One of my friends is celebrating National Poetry Month by featuring a different poem form each day on her tumblr. She is encouraging others to follow along and write their own poems in each form. I am a bit behind, so this is the poem I wrote for the one she posted yesterday, an acrostic. Slipping into our view at last Promising sultry summer days Renewing hope in sunshine. Inebriated by sunlight, we make New attempts at this thing called life Giving thanks for every moment. ~ S.D.L

NaPoMo: Street Song

Welcome to April, National Poetry Month! To celebrate, I’ll be posting poems here through the month, and will attempt to write some of my own! So here is a poem I stumbled across today in a new book of poetry… Street Song Like an eddying willow leaf I stand on the street and turn: people, both ways coming and going around me, swirl: probably I am no stiller– detached; but gold is coming into my veins ~ A.R. What’s in Your Pile?

I’ve been thinking about this quote a lot recently. It is such a good reminder about the reality of our lives. Because the truth is, we always have a bad pile and a good pile. Life isn’t perfect, therefore we’ll always have a bad pile. Even when things are going relatively well, we can always think of things that could be better. And that can quickly grow into a pile of bad things. What are we to do? It isn’t like we can actually make our bad pile go away. We can try to whittle it down, but we…

Light

Just rediscovered an old favorite band, Sleeping at Last. I had no idea how many songs they have out…I was just familiar with their album from last year. So here’s a new fav song I found : )
