Cyber-Property: An Apology

Note: This is not an apology for my beliefs, but rather the justification of them and my reasons for the said beliefs. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Facebook, let me briefly explain how it works: everyone on facebook has a profile and a wall. A wall is where they post updates, links, etc…and by default, everyone else who is their “friend” can see and comment on anything on their wall. Is that all settled? Okay…let me begin… I posted a very innocent update to my wall, announcing that I’ve started a new book and the working title…

The Unpredictability of God

This is something I’ve been mulling over for some time, and felt like posting it tonight. There are have been a few incidences recently that have reminded me of this idea. God is so much bigger than we can imagine. He doesn’t fit into our neat compartments. He is like Aslan, we can’t keep God in our wallet or beckon like a genie at our whim. The story that comes to mind first is the water from a rock in the Old Testament. The Hebrews were wandering in the desert, complaining and rising up against Moses because they were so…

Biblical Law vs. Common Law? (Part 2)

In the first part of these posts I argued that Common Law isn’t contrary to Biblical Law but it is a natural extension of the Bible that allows us to live with and interact with those who have no respect for the Bible. And while I do have respect for the Reconstructionists and what they’re trying to do, I must continue to disagree with them. I’m bothered by this movement to use the Bible as a guide to everything we do. The Bible isn’t primarily a guide to this life, it is a guide to life everlasting. There are all…

A 24/7 Christianity

We had a great sermon Sunday morning on 1 Corinthians 6: 19-20, “Or do you know know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” Our pastor applied this not only to physical relationships but also to everything that we do. There were two points I liked especially. Firstly, God didn’t just buy us for one hour every Sunday morning. Being a Christian doesn’t mean you just go to church once a week…

Thus Begins My Second Weekend

I may have said this before, but working every day gives the weekend a whole new dimension. “Oh…so that’s why people are so excited about Friday nights…” I must say that my job has helped me have more sympathy for other people. In a sense, my job is bringing me out of the idealistic stage of youth. Don’t worry, it hasn’t made me entirely cynical yet, but it is slowly happening. For one thing, I understand now why some people don’t have the time to do things they like. Someone says they want to come to our Mises Circle, but…

On the writing of a novel

I haven’t yet published my first novel (thought it is very close to publication by now) and I’m already planning my next one. This phase of writing is nearly as wonderful as the actual writing. Right now anything is possible. I can dream big dreams and create fantastic plots. I’ve learned many lessons from my first novel. So here’s what I’m doing different: – The first ever novel I wrote had a plot and theme much too small. It would have made a decent short story, but not a novel. It was misery trying to drag that thing out enough….

Hello!

So far this is has been a good Monday. I’m only an hour into it, but it is quite promising. Usually by this time I would be only half an hour or less into the day (because I sleep in….) but today I got up early and that’s always comforting. Well, it is nice after you get up but not while you’re laying in bed wishing the alarm clock didn’t go off and you could just forget about it. Oh well. Here’s my favorite quote from yesterday, “A big, sovereign God frees us to be little, humble people with bright…

Church Moving!

Our church is moving from North Alpine to Guilford. 6310 Guilford Rd, to be exact. We’re moving into what is (until tomorrow) Shiloh Evangelical Free Church. Then on Friday it will become Grace Reformed Baptist Church. So last night we finished packing and getting everything into the trucks in preparation for Friday. It was really difficult. First of all, the pizza was extremely good. I couldn’t stop eating it. And then there were the Oreo’s…and between standing around doing nothing I was forced to stand around holding a place of delicious little cakes and candies in an attempt to get…

A Sunday Afternoon Adventure

I promised my friends that I would make this into a blog post, so we’ll see how I do… Our church in Rockford is starting a church plant on the south side of Chicago, around Tinley Park, to be exact. So yesterday I was generously given a ride there by my pastor’s family. When we reached the residential area of Tinley Park the boys in the back began shouting, “Christmas lights!! I see Christmas lights!!” in a very loud voice. And then…”Christmas lights!! I see Christmas–I see a family eating dinner! With spiked hair!” I assume that it was the…

Bush: The Greater Threat to Liberty

Note: This statement is made in relation to the former president and the current President Obama. There are some who have come before and some who will probably come after who are greater threats to our liberty. Last night after walking out on the Nightly News (I figured I’d be kicked out of the room anyways…for my adamant yelling at the TV screen) I made the extraordinary statement that Bush was a far worse president than President Obama. After reflection I realize that it wasn’t all that extraordinary, but it sounds better that way, doesn’t it? So I had to…
