Coming Soon: Path of Grass

While progress was slightly delayed, I’m on track to get Path of Grass published in the next month or two. Actually, it might be more like two or three months, just because I have to be patient and wait for other people who can’t devote every waking moment to preparing my book for publication. Why is this exciting and why should you be excited about Path of Grass? As a friend of mine at a recent Mises Circle said, we’re not going to achieve more liberty by voting for “better” rulers. Look at the “freedom loving” Tea Party candidates who…

A Mises Weekend, Part 1

On April 8th and 9th my dad and I went into Chicago for the Mises Institute’s Highschool Seminar and their Saturday Mises Circle. With my new job these events came up really quickly and I wasn’t thinking about it until that week. Friday was extremely icky…rainy and cold, and of course windy. I didn’t get to drive all the way to the train station which was disappointing, but after driving a little in the rain/dark I was relieved to have my dad take over. He was worried about getting to our train on time (and not being run over by…

Another Week

So I still have my topics in mind for some interesting posts, but don’t have time to write it all down. This week is pretty crazy because I’m trying to make time for driving practice, and preparing for the Chicago Mises Circle this weekend and of course, working. Thankfully I don’t have any other big projects like a webinar or history class. I hope to get back into some of that next week. And more reading. It just makes me sick to think of all the books I want to read and haven’t. Same with studying. I wish I could…

Still Alive…Just Barely

Sorry folks, to keep you waiting this long for another blog post. This has been a rough week for me. First, I had to get my driving permit which meant I had to go down to the Secretary of State office and grovel at the feet of the state and…ugh, I won’t start ranting now. Then I started coming down with a cold. Not fun. Then a couple other things developed which really messed up my plans for this summer, and well, for my life in general. πŸ™‚ I’m still getting over that, but haven’t even started recovering from my…

A 24/7 Christianity

We had a great sermon Sunday morning on 1 Corinthians 6: 19-20, “Or do you know know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” Our pastor applied this not only to physical relationships but also to everything that we do. There were two points I liked especially. Firstly, God didn’t just buy us for one hour every Sunday morning. Being a Christian doesn’t mean you just go to church once a week…

The Horror of Horror

Last night I stayed up late watching Hitchcock’s The Birds. It was an interesting evening. I was pretty skeptical about it, thinking the film would be corny and not that scary. Haha….after the movie I had a moment of panic as I was pulling the blinds down on my windows, like “ahhhhhh….the birds are going to peck through the glass while I’m sleeping…help….!” but I did manage to calm down. I’m going to first describe the movie negatively, 1) the movie was not an old, corny film with bad effects and 2) the movie was not one of these modern,…

Nice Mises Daily Article

You really should check out this article at Mises.org. Really. πŸ™‚ It is by my good friend, Floy Lilley, on our experiences in Prof. Gordon’s logic class. I say “our” because she quotes me extensively (which is pretty cool). A nice benefit of having a website where you can spout off about everything you think of, lol. So, go over to Mises.org and read the article! Oh, does anyone know who in the world Mumford & Sons are? I’ve never heard of them… πŸ™‚

Destination: Mises University 2011

So I just got the official announcement from the Mises Institute that I’ve received a scholarship for Mises U. Suffice to say, I’m exceedingly thrilled. πŸ™‚ I get these shivers up and down my spine just thinking about how awesome it is going to be. It will be even more fun this year because I know some of the professors, faculty, and students, and I always like things better when I’m familiar with it. So if last year was fantastic, I can’t imagine how incredible this year will be πŸ™‚ I’m also blessed with a nice boss who has already…

Thus Begins My Second Weekend

I may have said this before, but working every day gives the weekend a whole new dimension. “Oh…so that’s why people are so excited about Friday nights…” I must say that my job has helped me have more sympathy for other people. In a sense, my job is bringing me out of the idealistic stage of youth. Don’t worry, it hasn’t made me entirely cynical yet, but it is slowly happening. For one thing, I understand now why some people don’t have the time to do things they like. Someone says they want to come to our Mises Circle, but…

Thus Begins the Second Week of Work

In about 2 hours I’m heading in to my second week of working. So, “how was the first week?” you ask. It was a mixed week. Some of it was really tedious and boring. But some of it was really, really interesting. And at least the boring work (scanning papers into the computer) has a purpose. It has been fascinating to see how the business works, to understand the weak areas and the flaws, and to start thinking out ways to improve production and communication. While I had not thought about such a job (I actually entertained thoughts of working…
