Liberty is obviously something that is often on my mind…could you tell? However, I don’t know how often we consider the superficiality of political and economic liberty. It is nice, yes, but there is something much deeper. By nature, we are slaves to sin. We aren’t free. Have you ever tried to be perfect? We can’t be. We can’t stop sinning. Sin is the root of the problem, the greatest tyranny this world has ever faced. The irony of it is that we’ve enslaved ourselves. It isn’t Satan forcing us to sin, it is our own hearts longing to sin that binds us. So for all the talk about liberty, true liberty starts inside, with a renewal, a rebirth of our hearts that only God can give us. Without that, liberty from dictators means nothing because we will still be slaves to ourselves.
