I’m Still Alive

Yes, I’m still here, in case you were wondering. I have such good intentions every week to blog at least once a day and then I start missing days and all of a sudden it is the end of the week and I’ve written only one post. How does that happen?

I’ve been busy this week working on some new projects. I’ll be rolling out a website for my book very soon. I’m getting really, really excited about the book. This is something I’ve dreamed of for years, and I’ve been working on this story for at least 2 years, if not longer. And I’m getting so close to actually having it out there! Someday you might say, “oh, yes, Savannah Liston? The famous novelist? Oh, I knew her back when she barely managed to write a blog post each day.”

I’m also trying to start a website for some hair accessories I’ve been making. First I started making them for my sisters and selling them at .50 cents or $1 and I actually made quite a bit off of my poor hapless siblings. 🙂 So then I invested that capital and bought some new materials. I make little ribbon flowers, cloth flowers, and yoyos. If you don’t know what a yoyo is, google it; they are quite cute. I make mine with a special backing so they can be worn on a headband, clip, bobby pin, or even pinned to a purse, scarf, etc…The possibilities are endless, and I have great fun designing each one. So of course I need a website for that. And although I love WordPress, I absolutely HATE the way WordPress handles images. It is so clunky and cumbersome and annoying and, well…you get the point. So I’m having some difficulty deciding what to do about that. Do I just bear with it? Try to install a plugin to make it a little better? Go with something totally different? Any suggestions?

Then there’s the online course I’m taking. Every time I think about it, I have this nearly irresistible urge to start jumping up and down for sheer excitement. I did that back in March, you know, when I got the scholarship to attend Mises U. There’s this scene in Wives and Daughters where Molly and Cynthia are ecstatic about something (I forget what) and they’re doing this funny little dance/jig together across the room.  Of course Mrs. Gibson came in and ruined it all. But that’s what I did with every family member I could find after I got the email about Mises U. And that’s what I want to do now, but I think my family would tire of it very quickly.

Anyways…that’s what I’m doing this week, watch for some exciting news next week about my book. 🙂

  1. Well… for your website predicament, I would actually suggest Blogger, at least for a small website. You can set it up to look and function like a website. Plus you don’t have to pay for hosting. I’m pretty fed up with WordPress and I’m switching my blog over to Blogger. At any rate… my Prairie Rose Designs site is on Blogger, so you can see how it looks.
Do you upload your images through WP? If you wanted to stick with WP, I’ve always just uploaded my images separately to Photobucket so it’s not hosted on my server.

  2. Well, I was going to have it be a subdomain of this site, so I wouldn’t have to pay more hosting. I wouldn’t mind doing Blogger, but I want it to be at my own address. Just like your site, where it isn’t “blogspot.com.” I haven’t figured out how to do this. Suggestions?

  3. You can set up Blogger on your own domain… there were a bunch of steps you had to do. Here is the link to the Blogger help page: http://www.google.com/support/blogger/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=55373
My mom set up all the stuff for it to show up on my own domain; we didn’t buy the domain through Blogger. So you would have to do all that stuff with the CNAME. It was confusing to me, but she figured it out. 🙂 You could just forward your domain, but that wouldn’t make all your page addresses be at that domain… was that at all helpful? 🙂
